How can I capture the electric velocities of nature?
My technique developed from a desire to capture nature’s fantastical moments - the quick passing of a storm, the blur of snow falling or a stream’s drip down a barren mountain. By painting large washes/swaths of color in neutral tones and brushing in various directions, I create shapes across the canvas, paint drips naturally. Over days, I choose whether to highlight, minimize or remove drips. With a variety of mark making tools, I layer shapes and lines, then work the painting with other non-traditional tools, like an over-sized metal spatula or broom handle. Repeated layering of all techniques, blended with my own vision determines the ultimate destination of each painting’s journey.
